The exhibition, In Colour, a selection of 20th Century works by Irish artists acquired from The Arts Council and AIB collections, will be accompanied by an extensive education programme which will include The National Gallery’s Leaving Certificate Revision Day, mediated tours, resource packs and talks by featured artists Martin Gale, Robert Ballagh and Alice Maher.

This course is designed for complete beginners, those with some experience of basket making and those people who participated in Draíocht’s previous one day Basket Weaving Course. Participants will be provided with a good grounding in basket weaving techniques which they will develop and use to design and create their own baskets. 8 Weeks - 20 SEPT – 15 NOV (no class Oct 25).

This 15 week course is for students aiming for third level art education and will assist with others preparing for the leaving certificate. The course will focus on three important areas of study for developing a good portfolio, observational studies, personal studies and keeping a notebook. The course will also incorporate art appreciation which will be explored by way of in-depth investigations of exhibitions in Draíocht’s gallery programme. 15 WEEKS  21 SEPT – 01 FEB 2011   (no class Oct 26, & Dec 14 to 03 Jan).

This is a fun course aimed at adults who wish to explore their creative side and offers an introduction to the mediums of paint and print. This four week set of taster sessions will introduce students to different techniques, approaches and elements to both painting and print making enabling them to create their own original works of art. Forget your fancy digital cameras - learn photography at its most basic, and most exciting. Draíocht’s Artist in Residence Garvan Gallagher invites you to take part in a workshop that explores the simplicity and beauty of photography. As part of this workshop, you will make your own pinhole camera, learn how an image is actually formed (in any camera) and make a pinhole image, which will be developed at the end of the session in the darkroom at Draíocht. At the end, you will have your own pinhole image and camera to take home with you.

Draíocht is delighted to offer a series of 8 evening acting classes for adults this autumn, facilitated by Liam Halligan. The course will be practical and fun and specifically designed to increase confidence and expressiveness. The classes will be suitable for beginners as well as the more experienced performer. The course will include physical, vocal and group work. We will aim to present a ‘work in progress’ session during the last week. Liam Halligan is an established professional theatre director and was nominated for an Irish Times Award as Best Director. He is a regular guest acting coach at the Gaiety School of Acting.

Creative Writing Workshop & Reading

Refine your creative writing skills in this intensive workshop with established short-story writer and poet Nuala Ní Chonchúir. Nuala will personally and constructively critique your work on a one to one basis. Therefore participants are required to submit either one story of up to 3000 words or 2 shorter pieces up to 3000 words to Nuala before the workshop and latest by 30 September 2010. Submit your work to sarah.oneill@fingalcoco.ie or Yvonne.obrien@fingalcoco.ie. You will then have the opportunity to discuss and refine your work under Nuala’s expert direction.
