DNA by Dennis Kelly

DNA by Dennis Kelly

D15 Youth Theatre

Fri 3 - Sat 4 Jul 2015 Draíocht Stage // €9 / €6 conc

Fri 03 July 7pm & Sat 04 July 2.30pm & 7pm

DNA by Dennis Kelly follows the consequences of a practical joke that ends in tragedy. It deals directly and powerfully with hard hitting, relevant issues, such as violence, guilt, unrequited love, tyranny and solidarity within a group of adolescents who have placed themselves at the edge of society. With a harrowing twist and a taste of the sinister that smacks of William Golding’s Lord of The Flies, DNA is a social comment that resounds with people of all ages.

Since the arrival of aggressive and volatile John Tate the rest of the school fears him, he is above the law and intends to stay that way. Social outcast and self proclaimed loner Alice would do anything to be accepted into the group, to be protected, to be safe, to hang out in the woods with them for just one afternoon. How far will she go? Being spat at? Being punched? Being bullied? Being murdered? The group discover how their tyranny presents them with cathartic repercussions and social developments within their clique.

D15 Youth Theatre is in its 4th year. Youth Theatre gives young people aged between 14-18 years a space to create, express themselves and explore ideas.

This is an amateur production of DNA, presented by special arrangement with Samuel French LTD.
The age range for the show is 14+ / there are violent themes and strong language.
Co-Directed by Eimear Morrissey & Mark Rogers.

Beag, is a little event that has a huge focus on the arts for the very young. Draíocht will, for this one day, be magically transformed into a big space for an adventure through story, visual arts, music and dance for the very small. With a combination of book-in and free drop-in events children are invited to explore the little spaces that big people don’t usually see. Little characters will lurk under the chairs; footprints will amble across floors and elsewhere in the small nooks that children notice. Armed with your imagination and natural curiosity, explore colour by drawing big on our gallery walls, build a box and wool sculpture, dance with Michelle, hear and respond to a story with Orla and bang a drum. This event will culminate with a celebratory exhibition of the work created by the days young artists and explorers in the First Floor Gallery from Thursday 16th July 2015.
