Casablanca (1942)

Wed 1 Feb 2017 7.30PM Main Auditorium // €7.50 / €6 conc

In Casablanca, Morocco in December 1941, a cynical American expatriate (Humphrey Bogart) meets a former lover (Ingrid Bergman), with unforeseen complications. An undisputed masterpiece and perhaps Hollywood's quintessential statement on love and romance, Casablanca has only improved with age, boasting career-defining performances from Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. "You must do the thinking for both of us," Ilsa says to Rick. He does, and his plan brings the story to its satisfyingly logical, if not entirely happy, conclusion.

Pauline Scanlon

Gossamer

Sat 18 Feb 2017 8PM Draíocht Studio // €18 / €16 conc

Hailing from Dingle, West Kerry, Pauline is one half of celebrated singing duo LUMIERE, a project which has seen her perform throughout the world in recent years including a performance in Carnegie Hall in 2014.
This vocalist and songwriter galvanised the Irish music scene with her stunning debut album, Red Colour Sun. Coming from the Irish tradition yet equally versed on the world and contemporary music realms, Scanlon is capable of making the oldest ballads sound immediate and fresh while granting newer material a timeless resonance.

Gossamer is her first solo album in 10 years, and is a collection of songs steeped in loss and love. Produced by long time collaborator John Reynolds (Sinéad O’Connor, Seun Kuti, Herbie Hancock, Damien Dempsey) it sees Pauline push herself out of the acoustic and into a more electric soundscape. Gossamer unveils her palette of ferocity and fragility in a new, dramatic context.

"Her voice is a superb mix of china cup fragility and steely strength." The Irish Times

Now for the first time in Blanchardstown they reunite for this special show.

We're delighted to be offered this opportunity to play more shows together. We may even turn our reunion into an annual event!" Kieran Goss

The Humours of Bandon

Fishamble: The New Play Company / Written and performed by Margaret McAuliffe

Thu 23 Feb 2017 8PM Main Auditorium // €18 / €16 conc // Dur: 60 Mins

‘Hammer that floor… don’t be afraid of it.’

For Annie, a teenage Dubliner, Irish Dancing is everything and nothing. At odds with her mother, her teacher, and her bendies, Annie struggles with knowing that, if she gets everything just perfect, then this time she could be, might be, should be: the Irish Open Champion. Or maybe not. And why, actually, is it so important to come first? Does winning really matter?
From the confines of every parochial hall in Ireland, Irish Dancing champions are churned out at a massive rate. Riverdance swells a national pride, must-have costumes cost a fortune, medals and cups build up in drawing rooms, but the public isn’t privy to the blood, sweat and mind-numbing commitment that pave the way to the first place podium.

The Humours of Bandon is a coming of age story, full of heart and wisdom, for anyone who had a childhood passion that threatened to overwhelm their life – or has had to ferry a child to a competition they don’t quite understand.
The Humours of Bandon premiered at Bewleys Café Theatre @ Powerscourt as part of Show in a Bag an artist development initiative of Tiger Dublin Fringe, Fishamble: The New Play Company and Irish Theatre Institute to resource theatre makers and actors.
