Poetry Surprises with Colm Keegan & Guests
National Poetry Day Open Mic
Join us for an evening of poetry in celebration of National Poetry Day. Taking the theme of Poetry Surprises, tonight will be programme of two halves. The first half is Spoken Word Poet, Colm Keegan plus guest poets, Kerrie O’Brien and Rob Buchanan, who will perform their work for us.
Kerrie O'Brien is a poet from Dublin. Her debut collection of poetry ‘Illuminate’ was published by Salmon Poetry in October 2016 and was made possible by a Literature Bursary from the Arts Council of Ireland. She was the editor of ‘Looking at the Stars’, a limited edition anthology of Irish writing which raised over €21,000 for homelessness in Dublin. She holds a BA in History of Art and Classics from Trinity College Dublin.
Rob Buchanan is a freelance journalist, playwright and LGBT activist. He is one of the winners of the Poetry Ireland Introductions Series and his debut collection ‘The Cost of Living’ won several awards.
The second half of the evening is over to you! MC’d by Colm Keegan, Draíocht invites you to our first Open Mic Session, where you the audience are encouraged to take to the Mic and share your work with us. Have you a piece scribbled on a note pad or on an iphone? Then this is your time! A prize of a 90 minute one-to-one session with Colm to support and develop a piece will be awarded on the evening to one Open Mic poet. This event is over 15’s and the one-to-one session is available to anyone 18 years and over.
