Jason Deans Artist in Residence
January - June 2016
Jason Deans is a Dublin artist whose work emerged during the Irish economic recession that began in 2008. His practice is reactive to issues of political and financial instability in Ireland, Europe and the world at large and the ensuing social difficulties it creates.
Jason graduated from The University of Ulster in 2009 with an MFA and he achieved his BA in Fine Art from DIT in 2007. Throughout his career he has used a variety of media including sculptural installation, printmaking, drawing and photography to explore these events. His work finds itself drawn towards a moment in time and capturing history’s fleeting nature. He employs ephemeral materials such as sand, water and earth in his practice along with more traditional artistic materials, often creating a sense of unease within the works.
He has shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland including Dublin, Belfast, Tullamore and recently exhibited as part of the TULCA ‘Seachange’ arts festival in Galway. Jason will use his time on residency with Draíocht, to produce a new body of work for a solo exhibition with the arts centre along with shows in Belfast and Mayo in 2016.
