December 2005 - May 2006
Using many different media to present his work such as photography, installation, video and performance, Paul Coffey sees and uses many of those small oddities in our environment that are there and sometimes visible but which we often fail to notice. He sees what we see but with humour and a little intervention he nudges us to see more and better. His work is clever and fresh and leaves all the questions open giving his audience a wide berth for interpretation. His practice is rather like a satisfying cryptic crossword that perfectly places itself in reach of both quick and slower thinkers, while being thoroughly entertaining at the same time.
Paul Coffey is an artist from Blanchardstown who graduated with first class honours degree in Art and Design Education at the National College of Art and Design, followed by a first class honours Masters degree in Fine Art at the University of Ulster, Belfast in 2005. Paul exhibited work as part of Amharc Fhine Gall at Draiocht in 2004 and has since shown work at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Bankley Gallery Manchester, Catalyst Arts and Queen Street Studios Belfast, Tig Fili Gallery Cork, and was one of four artists selected for Platform 059 at Eigse, Carlow in 2005.
Paul Coffey’s exhibition, Beyond Habit, was in Draíocht's Ground Floor Gallery from 1 December 2005 to 7 January 2006.
