Autumn Evening Classes for Adults

Knitting

For the first time Draíocht is offering a course in knitting. This fun and creative course is aimed at complete beginners and those we have dabbled with knitting before. Classes will begin with the basics of this creative craft, building up students’ skills to create their own knitted pieces from scratch. Participants will have to provide their own materials, details of which will be provided at time of booking. This course will be taught by Amie Lawless.


Portrait Drawing
Tuesdays 7.30-9.30 pm

8 Weeks starting 20 October until 15 December (no class October 27)

Following on from the success of Draíocht’s first series of Portrait drawing classes earlier this year, we are delighted to welcome back Alan Daly for another series of classes aimed at developing previous students skills as well as introducing those already familiar with different art forms to the practice. This course will focus on drawing from a model, working in different media, mainly charcoal, ink, pencil and some painting. This course will also include how to build up a drawing around a portrait, in devising and setting backdrops using cloth, furniture and objects.

Spring Evening Classes for Adults

Introduction to Drawing
MONDAYS 7.30-9.30PM

10 WEEKS 01 FEB - 12 APR (no class Apr 5)

This course will offer a fresh look at the practice of drawing. Over the course of ten weeks the many aspects of drawing will be explored through a variety of media and techniques. Each class will look at ways in which different media can be used including pencil, charcoal, pastels and inks. The course will also look at non-traditional methods of drawing such as combining different media and the combination of image and text. Materials for this course will be provided. This course will be taught by artist Michelle Hall.

Poetry for Beginners
TUESDAYS 7.30-9.30PM

10 WEEKS 02 FEB – 06 APR

This course is aimed at anyone who wants to begin to develop their poetry writing skills. For ten weeks we will look at how to begin writing poetry, from finding the inspiration to learning how to put shape and form on our words. Over the ten weeks we will examine how to: produce a first draft and how to revise; understand how the poetic line works; experiment with alliteration and other patterns; develop our own poetic voice; work with imagery; explore persona in poetry; explore rhyme and consider various types of form and free verse.
Each class will comprise of exercises and reading the work of established poets. As the course goes on there will be opportunities to workshop participants’ poems and explore opportunities for publication. This course will be taught by award winning poet Nessa O’Mahony.



Crochet
WEDNESDAYS 7.30-9.30PM

8 WEEKS 03 FEB – 31 MAR (no class Mar 17)

This course is aimed at those who wish to learn the skill of crochet and develop it into making accessories and garments. The class will teach various crochet stitches with an introduction to crochet techniques. It will also provide pattern walk-through so students will be able to complete their own pieces. Materials will be required at an approximate cost of €35, full details of which will be provided at time of booking.
