HOMESPUN - A D15 Young Voices Project

NOV 2017- FEB 2018

Wed 1 Nov - Wed 28 Feb 2018

We invite teachers from Primary and Secondary Schools in Dublin 15 to apply to be part of HOMESPUN, a spoken word, poetry and performance project, with award winning poet Colm Keegan and Visual Artist Micheal McLoughlin.

Over Autumn/Winter 2017 and Spring 2018, Colm Keegan will engage pupils in writing poetry about their place and their home, complementing Draíocht’s theatre project, ‘Home Theatre Ireland’. This is a project about encouraging, supporting and acknowledging the voice of our younger citizens. The project will culminate in a live performance and exhibition in Draíocht’s First Floor Gallery space in Spring 2018.

If you are interested in your school taking part in this project please contact sarah@draiocht.ie or on 01 8098029 for an application form by Friday 29nd September 2017.

My Life as a Courgette / Ma vie de Courgette - SOLD OUT

Draiocht in Association with The Irish Film Institute

Wed 24 Jan 2018 10.30AM Main Auditorium // €5 Per Student / 2 Teachers Free per Class of 20+

This season Draíocht will collaborate once again with the Irish Film Institutes Education Programme by screening the film 'My Life as a Courgette / Ma vie de Courgette' for TY and Senior Cycle Secondary School Students, in French (with English subtitles).

'My Life as a Courgette' is an Academy Award-nominated stop-motion animation from Director Claude Barras and Writer Céline Sciamma, (GIRLHOOD, TOMBOY). After his alcoholic mother’s sudden death, 9 year old Icare, nicknamed Courgette, is befriended by a police officer, Raymond, who accompanies him to his new foster home filled with other orphans his age. At first he struggles to find his place in this often strange and hostile environment. Yet, with Raymond’s help and his newfound friends, Courgette eventually learns to trust and love, as he searches for a new family of his own. The combination of respectful characterisation and distinctive style is hugely affecting, yielding a tender film for young audiences, of youthful angst with a complete difference.

Draiocht in Association with The Irish Film Institute

Wed 21 Feb 2018 10.30AM Main Auditorium // €5 Per Student / 2 Teachers Free per Class of 20+

This season Draíocht will collaborate once again with the Irish Film Institutes Education Programme by screening the film 'The Golden Dream / La Juala de Oro'  for TY and Senior Cycle Secondary School Students, in Spanish (with English subtitles). Recommended age: 15+

A group of Guatemalan teenagers attempt to make their way to the U.S.A., dreaming of the better life that the country promises, but they are ill equipped, both physically and emotionally, for the challenges they face getting there. Sara attempts to pass as a boy, thinking that will make her less vulnerable; Juan positions himself as the group’s guide and cheerleader, but he proves himself as naïve as the others; Samuel struggles from the start of the adventure, while Chauk, an indigenous Indian, speaks no Spanish.
Diego Quemada-Díez has previously worked with Ken Loach, and there’s evidence of that in the film’s raw realism and its committed social concerns. It’s a brilliant and effecting debut, which has won numerous prizes on the festival circuit, including an award for its young ensemble cast at Cannes 2013.

Fíbín presents a new bilingual version of Diarmuid agus Gráinne

Tue 17 - Wed 18 Apr 2018 TUE 17 APR 8PM / WED 18 APR 11AM Main Auditorium // Evening €18 / €16 conc / School show €10 (2 teachers free per class of 20+)

Léiríonn Fíbín Tóraíocht – leagan nua den scéal Tóraíocht Dhiarmada agus Ghráinne – curtha in oiriúint agus stiúrtha ag Mikel Murfi agus scríofa ag Philip Doherty. Is scéal grá lán le héachtaí aisteacha agus fathaigh é Tóraíocht a úsáideann amharcíomhánna cumhachtacha. Bogann an scéal ar aghaidh níos tapa ná haon rás carranna, léimeann an scéal níos airde ná haon léimneoir cuaille agus tá dhá oiread grá sa scéal agus a bheadh ag aon Fhrancach agus Diarmaid agus Gráinne ag déanamh iarracht a bheith céim chun tosaigh ar Fionn agus na Fianna!

Fíbín presents “Tóraíocht” -  a new bilingual version of “Diarmuid agus Gráinne” – adapted and directed by Mikel Murfi and written by Philip Doherty. Using a bilingual text and stunning visuals “Tóraíocht” is a love story full of outlandish feats and monsters! The story moves faster than any car-chase, jumps higher than any vaulter, and loves twice as much as any Frenchman, as Diarmuid and Gráinne attempt to stay one step ahead of Fionn and the Fianna! All performances will be subtitled in English.
