Bookings Policy for Schools of Drama/Dance/Music
REVISED BOOKING SYSTEM/ KEY POINTS:
· Only schools based in Dublin 15 and the wider Fingal area will be allocated dates throughout the year
· Only schools based in D15 and only their D15 classes, will be given dates during the February to June period.
· For 2024, available dates were allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Those schools could not be guaranteed dates in 2025.
· Schools who requested but were unable to secure a date for their 2024 show, would get priority booking for 2025 dates, on a first come first serve basis.
· Schools who could not get dates in 2025 will be offered dates, on a first come first serve basis, for 2026.
We informed all our regular stage/dance/music school producers of this new system in July 2023.
BACKGROUND:
As an arts centre, firmly rooted in and serving the communities of Dublin 15, Draíocht provides high quality access to arts experiences to children and young people in a myriad of ways. This includes the programming of local stage/dance/music schools end of year shows.
Since opening in 2001, the demand for dates from Dublin 15, wider Fingal as well as from further afield, has grown exponentially. With our stated focus on Dublin 15, a progamming policy was put in place in 2016 that only stage/dance/music schools based in Dublin 15, would be allocated available dates throughout the year. This was extended to Fingal based schools if dates were available.
Over the last number of years, the number of requests for dates from Dublin 15 schools has once again increased, most looking for dates during the February to June period. We have a limited number of weekends available to hire during this time and an unprecedented and ever-growing demand for our spaces. We are unable to meet the demand on an annual basis.
In 2023, with over 20 Dublin 15 schools requesting dates over a short window of time, a transparent system of allocating same was developed and approved by our Board of Directors. This came into effect for bookings from 2024 onwards.
As a publicly funded organisation, with an acknowledged commitment to children and young people, Draíocht needs to be transparent. This revised booking system facilitates as many D15 schools of stage/dance/music as possible therefore enabling an increased number of local children/young people, have the experience of performing on the stage in their local arts centre.
Draíocht and our Board of Directors recognise that some of our regular stage/dance/music schools will be disappointed and others who are getting access for the first time will be pleased. We believe that this system is the fairest way possible to make the space accessible to all.
