The Audition is NOT based on talent alone; participants are selected with regard to the following aim:

We aim to establish a good gender mix, from a range of abilities and backgrounds and so, will select participants based on the following criteria:

• Gender balance

• Social/geographical mix

• Inclusion of ages 14 years-18 years

• Interest and passion for theatre

We will let each participant know by letter if they have been selected.
Should you be offered a place, the first term will run weekly onTuesdays, starting early October. There is a €10 membership fee for the term and a €2 weekly contribution.

We look forward to seeing you at auditions and wish you luck on the day!

Dublin Theatre Festival 2019 in Draíocht - The Alternative by Fishamble

September 30, 2019

The Alternative - A PLAY FOR IRELAND
Fishamble: The New Play Company.
Presented as part of Dublin Theatre Festival 2019

What if Ireland was still part of the United Kingdom? What if Home Rule had passed? What if there was no War of Independence? No Civil War? No partition? What if the island had only one soccer team? The year is 2019 and it is the eve of the Referendum. British Prime Minister Ursula Lysaght is returning to her hometown of Dublin to convince voters to Remain. With the threat of chaos in the streets, and personal conflict behind the scenes, the final debate is set to begin at BBC Dublin: Should Ireland leave the UK?
The Alternative by Michael Patrick and Oisín Kearney is the chosen play from the A Play for Ireland project. As part of its 30th year in 2018, Fishamble set out to find one big, ambitious play, that bursts with humanity, and tackles a subject about which the playwright feels passionate - A PLAY FOR IRELAND. This was a two-year process, in association with Draíocht, The Everyman, Lime Tree Theatre/Belltable, Lyric Theatre, Pavilion Theatre, and Town Hall Theatre, which encouraged writers to create ambitious plays that burst with humanity.

Fishamble is an Olivier Award-winning internationally acclaimed Irish theatre company, dedicated to the discovery, development and production of new work.
Fishamble's A Play For Ireland programme is supported by Tesco Finest, and transportation partner Irish Rail. This production is funded by The Arts Council.

#OurPlaceOurStories ... FeliSpeaks

September 18, 2019

#OurPlaceOurStories

"I had the pleasure of working with these two groups of women that reflect monumental parts of who I am as a Irish-Nigerian living in Ireland. They gave me the chance to see women in several onion layers through the power of listening and the gift of art; for that I am eternally grateful. I felt really really humble and blessed to be able to soak in older minds. There’s something so beautiful about people who have lived further and longer than you, just pouring into you. That has been amazing. I hope I was able to impact them as much as they did, me." FeliSpeaks

Over 2019, Draiocht’s 6 artist partners have been working with one or two key community groups in Dublin 15 for OUR PLACE OUR STORIES. Felicia worked with Umunwanyi Olaedo (Igbo Union Women Wing) and D15 Women.

Supported as part of the Creative Ireland Programme’s National Creativity Fund, with additional funding being provided by Fingal County Council, OUR PLACE, OUR STORIES is a project which facilitates a collaboration between 6 leading artists and 6 key communities of interest in Dublin 15, under the artistic directorship of Veronica Coburn (Home Theatre Ireland; Hallelujah!, Draíocht’s Community Clown Choir).

OUR PLACE, OUR STORIES, is about facilitating people to explore themes that are relevant to them, to recognise their uniqueness, their shared experiences and to see their community in a way they wouldn’t have done before.

Over 2019, our 6 artist partners have been working with one or two key community groups. Mulhuddart Men’s Shed & Menitation (Shaun Dunne), Mulhuddart Boxing Academy (Megan Kennedy & Jessica Kennedy of Junk Ensemble), Daughters of Charity, Blakestown (Jody O’Neill), Foróige (Colm Keegan), Umunwanyi Olaedo (Igbo Union Women Wing) and D15 Women (FeliSpeaks), Hartstown Community College and Coláiste Pobail Setanta (Dylan Coburn Gray). Because of the young demographic of Dublin 15 and Draíocht's subsequent commitment to this age group, three groups are made up of young people (14yrs +). The key community groups represent different communities of place or interest. A variety of performing art forms (spoken word, theatre, dance) have been the focus of the workshop process exploring what stories each group felt they needed and wanted to tell and began the process of individual and collective artistic empowerment to shape those stories in dramatic form, poetic word and physical body.

OUR PLACE OUR STORIES culminates on Culture Night, 20th September 2019. With the emphasis for participants on articulation rather than performance, each outcome has been recorded on film and will be shown in Draíocht’s foyer as well as a special screening in our Studio Space at 6pm. This will be followed at 7.30pm by a live performance by our 6 artists, who have been commissioned as part of the project to create a new 10 minute piece in response to the experience of working with their group(s).

Our Place Our Stories - Shaun Dunne and Mulhuddart Men’s Shed

September 17, 2019

08 August 2019

We couldn’t miss an opportunity to snap the lovely gang from Mulhuddart Men’s Shed today, after a morning of work with their artist partner Shaun Dunne here in Draíocht, as part of 'Our Place, Our Stories', Draíocht’s ongoing project for 2019.

Mulhuddart Men’s Shed (Shaun Dunne), Mulhuddart Boxing Academy (Junk Ensemble), Daughters of Charity, Blakestown (Jody O’Neill), Foroige (Colm Keegan), Olaedo - Nigerian’s women’s group and Maureens’ Group (FeiliSpeaks), Hartstown Community College and Pobal Scoil Setanta (Dylan Coburn Gray). A variety of performing art forms (spoken word, theatre, dance) have been used in the workshop process and the groups represented different communites of place or interest. Because of the young demographic of Dublin 15 and Draíocht's subsequent commitment to this age group, three groups are made up of young people (14yrs +). Each group explored what stories they needed and wanted to tell and how those stories can be told to ensure they achieve their full potential when they meet their audiences in Draíocht.

OUR PLACE OUR STORIES culminates on Culture Night. Draíocht Visitor Survey 2019 – Help Us Get Even Better!

September 10, 2019

Draíocht Visitor Survey 2019 – Help Us Get Even Better!

It’s one of our goals to review and reimagine the experience we offer our audience through our communications, both online and physically when you’re in our building, as well as dealing with us in person. This survey is anonymous, and we’d like you to be as honest as possible – it’s your chance to tell us what we do well, and what we could improve on. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete, and has 3 sections with mostly tick-box questions.

On completion you can choose to enter a competition to win one of 2 Draíocht Gift Vouchers worth €50 each (your survey answers will remain anonymous, we'll take you to a separate page).

CLICK HERE to complete the Survey.
Thank you in advance for your time, we really do appreciate it.
