Ahead of this year’s event, Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan TD said:   “Ireland is the only country in the world to have a dedicated day of free creativity for our children and young people. Although only in its second year, Cruinniú na nÓg has already grown in ambition and scale with almost double the number of free activities taking place across the length and breadth of the country this year. This unique and important initiative helps us to deliver on our promise to enable the creative potential of every child and to give them the sense of accomplishment that comes with participating in a creative project that really triggers their imaginations.”

Dee Forbes, Director-General, RTÉ, said:  “Creativity and community are at the heart of RTÉ’s new mission statement.  They are also core principles of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Cruinniú na nÓg, which makes this partnership especially important for us. Encouraging and supporting opportunities for children and young people to come together to experience and explore their creative potential is a brilliant initiative. RTÉ supports over 130 arts and cultural events every year so recognizing and enabling artistic endeavour and creativity is something we take very seriously. We look forward to sharing in the excitement and fun on Saturday June 15 when the next generation of Ireland’s future creatives take centre stage on this very special day.”

#TheToddlerTakeOver is over for another year and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did today! We toddled and wobbled our way through fresh grass and painted trees, musical instruments, cardboard wonderlands, teddy bears singing, an underwater tea party, joyous dancers, floating paper rain, a rocket and an orange moon .. and so much more ....

Stay tuned for more photos, but for now here's just a sneak peak from Ste Murray | Photography & Design who captured some of the happiness that radiated from Draiocht today!

Thanks to all our artists, performers and audiences today and especially lead Artist Orla Kelly from Early Childhood Creativity, who created this magical wonderland, for the 5th Year in a row.

With a Sensory Toddler Event on WED 29 MAY / 10.30AM-1.30PM

Dancing, prancing, singing songs … playing, swimming, scribbling ...
Join us for our 5th Toddler Take Over Adventure in May!
A host of wonderful artists and art forms awaits you to see, hear and experience new adventures during our Toddler Take Over Adventure 2019! Draíocht’s Toddler Take Over, now in its 5th Year, celebrates the limitless imagination of the very young child and the magic that happens when it is combined with the world of artists and the arts. With a combination of book-in and free drop-in events, and the very special addition of a Sensory Toddler Day, children are invited to explore sounds and movement and think about really important questions:
Will the Sad Mermaid get to the party?
Can I shake to make music?
Can a tent dance?
Draíocht transforms into a big space for adventure through story, visual arts, music, circus and dance for the very young. Scribble and draw in our Gallery Spaces, dance, move and take part in a party under the sea ... dancers will dance and musicians will play ... scribble, build and invent. Children are invited to bring their insatiable curiosity and their adults to explore, discover new art forms, create, play, dance, draw, sing and nurture creative potential, while having fun too.
