Create Dancers Springing Back in January
January 7, 2020
Create Dance is a core part of Draíocht’s programming, a fun, innovative dance project, where the dancers love to dance and move and also have an intellectual disability. Dancers and facilitators Mark Rogers, Antje O’Toole and Conor Donolan work together with participants and their parents, to explore all types of dance and free movement. Two groups of children with intellectual disabilities from the downs syndrome and autism spectrum, their parents and siblings have taken part in this innovative dance project through a series of weekly workshops since December 2013.
The response from participants has been overwhelmingly positive and the level of engagement increasingly impressive. This project represents a rare opportunity for these sometimes socially marginalised families to engage in the arts in a fun, creative and stress-free environment.
Starting in January 2020, our Create Dance dancers and facilitators are collaborating with Lámh Signs Ireland, to create a new special piece of choreography for public show later in 2020.
If you have a child aged between 5-17 years with a love of dance, please get in touch with email@example.com / tel 01-8098029.
During term time, workshops are on Saturdays, for Juniors 12.15pm-1.15pm (places available) and Seniors 1.30pm-2.30pm.
Pre-booking for this workshop is essential via Paula or Sarah in our Children & Youth Arts Department.
