Draíocht News Update: 30 October 2020

October 30, 2020

Not Everything is Cancelled!

It's been a rough old year! But what 2020 has given us is the gift of resilience as we forge ahead as best we can. And let's remember … Not everything is cancelled!

Music isn’t cancelled, or dance, or sunshine, or walking, or poetry, or Netflix, or reading, or drawing, or chatting with friends.
Imagination isn’t cancelled.
Kindness isn't cancelled.
Nor most importantly… Hope!

We’re really sad that Draíocht is closed again, but we’re extremely hopeful that December and early 2021 brings better news for our audiences.
For now though, remember... Not everything is cancelled! Here’s what we’re up to behind closed doors as we try to keep the Magic going as best we can.

Space to Create
Jess Rowell - Dance Artist in Residence

Continuously evolving, Jess Rowell’s Dance Residency hasn’t faltered, even in this extraordinary year of challenges. All of the footage compiled over the past few months will feature in two final films in December, which will mark the end of this incredible year of dance creation.

Chance to Dance
A film which explores and captures the power of communication through movement and the exchange of gestures between dancers in space and on camera, working with senior members of Draíocht’s Create Dance project.

Between Us There Is…
A dance film featuring dancers Jess Rowell and Brian Mc Sweeney, shot by Conor Donelan with music by composer Stefan French. A piece originally created for live performance, recently adapted for film.

€10 Per Session Per Class // 40 mins // Book Now:  boxoffice@draiocht.ie

We are having so much fun with this programme, which allows primary school pupils to hear from interesting artists who work in a range of art forms in Ireland today. The artist will zoom right into your whiteboard to virtually meet and talk with pupils and teachers in your own classroom.

Here’s Laura Zooming into Castleknock National School last week:

Choose from:

Hear all about the wonders of acting, making a movie, and being on stage. How did Emily decide to be an actor - how can you become one too?

What's it like to be a musician? What instruments can Kevin play? Has he ever been in a band? What's it like to be on stage? Do you really need to practice every day?

Andrew is a contemporary visual artist working with many materials and new technologies to create lots of different kinds of visual art works. What is a visual artist? What is it like to be an artist? What is his work about?

Ask one of Draíocht’s very own technicians, Laura, questions about the magic of the lights, the booming sounds, amazing sets and more!

Halloween Dance Class with Conor

From Dead Insect Dancing to Killer Thriller Moves, Conor Donelan's latest online video class for our Create Dancers is as educational as is it hugely enjoyable!

Can you hear the 'Thriller' theme tune? Picture this... a creepy story, howling at the moon like a wolf and walking on creaking floorboards... then zombies everywhere! This Halloween Dance Class is high energy and super fun.

We are missing the very personal interactions we love so much with our favourite young dancers, but we will keep on dancing weekly, with Conor and Mark Rogers, online for now until we can have you all back in our building.

D15 Spook Theatre

"Puffs of magic, All spooky and tragic... "

D15 Youth Theatre has been back in action since early October, zooming weekly with Emily and Paula, and this week we worked on their Halloween Improv, showing great flair and skill as usual.

There were also conversations about stress levels among teenagers at this tough time and in response, we are going to work with Jo Quinn later this month to create a Mindfulness Video for Young People, so watch this space!

Our talented gang are also planning their next big project, which will take place in Draíocht's Gallery in June 2021.
