Maps to the Stars (2014)

Film at Draíocht

Wed 3 Jun 2015 7.30PM Main Auditorium // €7.50 / €6 conc

Maps to the Stars connects the savage beauty of writer Bruce Wagner’s Los Angeles with the riveting filmmaking of director David Cronenberg and a stellar ensemble cast to take a tour into the darkly comic heart of a Hollywood family chasing celebrity and the relentless ghosts of their pasts. The result is a modern Hollywood Gothic about the ravenous 21st Century need for fame and validation and the yearning, loss and fragility that lurk in the shadows underneath.
Starring Julianne Moore.

Would you trust a talking cat? You never know, he might turn you from a pauper to a prince just like the hero of this story, brought to vivid life on an incredible sloping stage by Patrick Lynch from Cbeebies. With smoke and mirrors and hidden trapdoors he’ll show you how this sure-footed feline fools both the King and the Ogre to put his master at the top. With a host of puppets, a working windmill and an avalanche of fruit and nuts come and see this classic furry tail - it’s the cat’s whiskers!
A show by Marcello Chiarenza. Adapted and performed by Patrick Lynch. Music by Carlo 'Cialdo' Capelli.

Charolais

Bigger Picture Projects

Thu 11 Jun 2015 8PM Main Auditorium // €16 / €12 conc // Dur: 65 mins (no interval)

‘I watch him pull the cow from the ditch with his bare hands, her big eyes rest on me dead calm as he leans into her and she gives in all trust. I hate that fuckin’ cow’.

‘Charolais‘  takes the age old tale of female jealousy and gives it a new twist: the other woman is cow, a literal one, a purebred Charolais heifer. Siobhan’s boyfriend is a farmer who devotes considerable attention to his prize heifer at the expense of his very pregnant girlfriend. Siobhan has developed a homicidal jealousy for this Charolais and is feeling equally murderous towards her snobbish soon-to-be mother in law.

Leonardo is a visually impaired teenager struggling to break free from his well-meaning friends and family. At home, his over- protective mother won’t let him do things by himself, and at school his best friend, Giovana, attentively looks out for him, leaving no room for Leonardo to stand up for himself. Wanting to experience the world for himself he considers going on an exchange programme, hoping to start afresh.
However, when new student Gabriel arrives in town, new feelings blossom and Leonardo begins to question his plans. Expanding his 2010 short to feature length, director Daniel Ribeiro has fashioned a magnificent, warm and funny film about friendship, the desire for independence and the longing for first love.
