Catherine Ward

Aug 2023

1-31 August 2023

Artist In Res Catherine Ward

Draíocht welcomes Fingal artist Catherine Ward to The Artists Studio, further to its recent Open Call. The Artists Studio is integral to Draíocht’s infrastructure and the Residency is integral to our programme. The purpose of the residency is primarily to provide time and space for an artist to develop their practice in a comfortable, practical and supportive environment. The Studio is rent free, with an additional payment of €500 per month to the artist.

---

Catherine Ward is a multidisciplinary artist from Malahide, Co Dublin. Catherine's practice is concerned with ideas around industry, technology and landscape. Her graduate work 'Unseen Sights' is an installation and series of paintings inspired by the old quarry landscapes of County Dublin. Using a camera drone, she captured images of the land from above revealing the human interventions which form an essential part of the environment of a city.

During the residency, Catherine wishes to engage in research around post-industrial sites in the North County Dublin region. She will begin working on a new series of large-scale paintings for a two-person exhibition opening at the Ardgillan Castle Gallery in September. She will also focus on developing her research into a small zine publication.

Catherine graduated with an undergraduate degree in Fine Art Painting from NCAD in June 2023. In 2022, she completed her Erasmus studies abroad at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig, Germany.
