Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie - Sensory Friendly Screening

Cinema at Draíocht

Sat 16 Jun 2018 3PM Draíocht Studio // €5 adults & children

Based on the worldwide sensation and bestselling book series, and boasting an A-list cast of comedy superstars headed by Kevin Hart and Ed Helms, DreamWorks Animation brings audiences the long-awaited global movie event, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. This raucously subversive comedy for the entire family tells the story of two overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold, who hypnotize their principal into thinking he's a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dim-witted superhero named Captain Underpants.

For this sensory friendly screening the volume is lowered, the auditorium lights are left on at a low level so the auditorium won't be in total darkness, we have restricted the capacity and viewers can make noise and move around the auditorium space if they wish.

Condemned to Remember (2017)

Cinema at Draiocht

Wed 11 Apr 2018 10.30AM Main Auditorium // €7.50 / €6 conc / €5 per student / 2 Teachers Free per class of 20+ // Dur: 94 mins + 60 mins Q&A

In 1944, nine year old Tomi Reichental was one of over forty members of his family taken from his home in Nazi-run Slovakia and put on a train to Bergen-Belsen. Lucky to escape going to Auschitz, where he faced certain death, he was one of only six members of his family to survive the Holocaust.

Irish Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental now celebrates his 80th birthday in a Dublin Mosque and embarks on an epic journey across a Europe in turmoil. In Germany, Tomi concludes his long quest to bring the convicted SS war criminal Hilde Michnia to account for her secrets and lies. In Poland and Slovakia, he confronts the ‘crisis of shame’ that prevents an honest reckoning with the scale of local ‘collusion’ with the Nazi extermination project. In Bosnia, Tomi embraces Muslim survivors of genocide, who still search for the bones of their loved ones. Along the way he puts himself into the shoes of the ‘new Jews’ and discovers a strong common bond with refugees fleeing the hell that is Syria.

Directed by Emmy award-winner Gerry Gregg, 'Condemned to Remember' explores whether we have really learned from the evils of the past.

You are invited to the opening of

HOMESPUN
A Dublin 15 Young Voices Exhibition

Featuring Transition Year Students from Blakestown & Riversdale Community Schools who worked with Writer/Spoken Word Poet Colm Keegan in collaboration with Draíocht’s Artist in Residence Michael McLoughlin, from November 2017-February 2018.

Thursday 22 March 2018 from 7pm-9pm
First Floor Gallery, Draíocht

Exhibition continues until 31 March 2018

HOMESPUN is the culmination of a spoken word and poetry project which seeks to celebrate and give a public platform to the voices and experiences of young people who call Dublin 15 their home, be they from Cork, Warsaw or Tokyo and regardless of whether they live in apartments, houses or hotels.
There are young people, for whom their friends mean Home and for others, Home can only ever be where their family is. Home can be when you have beans on toast, it can be your diary, or where your granny is; it can be in the car, or in your earphones. It can be a great place … or sometimes not so great.

This exhibition is an exploration of sound, words and contemporary arts practice and features an opening night performance by the young people.

Draíocht’s Galleries are open Monday to Saturday, 10am-6pm
Free Admission
