Draíocht News Update - 17 April 2020
It’s been 5 whole weeks since our first cancelled show, which was ‘Honk’ by St Mochta’s National School, under the joyful direction of John Cryan. We are certainly missing the very palpable levels of excitement throughout the building.
In marked contrast, this is our new normal now, as we Zoom our Meetings from home, keeping the positivity up and hoping that you, our audiences, friends and colleagues, are coping as well as can be expected and staying safe and busy.
We don’t know yet when we’ll be open, but we can’t wait to see you all again! We are here for you digitally and can assure you of one thing: When you do come back to Draíocht, our venue will be super safe.
We are committed to introducing new digital scanning of online tickets, minimising cash transactions and ensuring the highest standards of hygiene are in place. For now, we will continue with our digital communications and hope that you’ll stay the distance with us.
If you need our help, the best way to contact any of our staff at the moment is by email.
Or we have a Covid19 Temporary Box Office Phone Number:

GO QUARAN-TEAM!
D15 Youth Theatre are Zooming on Tuesdays! We’ve moved our regular evening meet ups online to keep in touch with all our young people.
'It’s so important that we keep our hobbies going and our creativity flowing. Our plans include writing monologues, acting and recording some individual pieces. Stay tuned for more!'
Emily Matthews, D15 Youth Theatre Facilitator
‘It is times like these that we turn to arts the most. The world’s population is creating and consuming art as if it is oxygen, sharing and spreading ideas, shedding light on the world’s problems while simultaneously acting as an escape. Art is a need, not a luxury. It enlightens our souls and surrounds us in our everyday lives.’ Kate, D15 Youth Theatre Member

CREATE DANCE
Our Create Dance children are having so much fun online that we asked Conor Donolan to make one of their videos public for EVERYONE to enjoy!
Create Dance is a core part of Draíocht’s programming. Now in its 8th year, it's a fun, innovative dance project, where our young dancers, with a variety of intellectual disabilities and abilities, love to dance and move.

#HOMETHEATREIRELAND EVALUATION REPORT
The printed copies arrived before lockdown and we can’t wait any longer to unveil it! Well, at least a digital unveil for now...
‘The beating heart of HOME THEATRE (Ireland) was performance night on Saturday October 6th. Ninety performances telling thirty stories to thousands of people in living rooms across Dublin 15. At approximately nine thirty that night I followed Samir and Duke Special and stood in the cold night to watch a paper lantern float up into the sky. My heart was full. My soul sated. My belief in us as a community, a society, replenished. For me, art had come to pass in the rich collaboration between artist and host, each acting as catalyst, the host unlocking the artist and the artist framing the host.’
Veronica Coburn, Artistic Director of Home Theatre Ireland
You can read the PDF of our Home Theatre Ireland Evaluation Report HERE.
11 Filmmakers captured all 30 shows which you can enjoy.

ARTIST RESIDENCIES
Draiocht is home to a bright and spacious Artists Studio, and since opening in 2001 it has been home to many artists. Artist Susan Buttner started her residency in early March, just before lockdown, and continues to work from home. Susan has created a video of her works in progress and we look forward to welcoming her back when we reopen.
‘Part of my exploratory sculptures and paintings whilst on residency are made intuitively with a variety of materials, laying bare, vulnerable and disquieting bodily reflections in political and social contexts. Exploring smaller works creating a dialogue between sculpture and painting, testing tensions between the exposition of stretched fabrics and the painted surface. I am looking forward to getting back into the studio post Covid19.’ Susan Buttner, Artist in Residence at Draíocht
