Create Dance & Sensory Friendly

We work with specialist educational partners to develop programmes especially aimed at children and young people with a range of needs.

Create Dance

A core part of Draíocht’s Sensory Friendly programming is Create Dance, a fun, innovative dance project, where our young dancers, with a variety of intellectual disabilities and abilities, love to dance and move on Saturday afternoons in Draíocht. Dancers and facilitators, Mark Rogers and Conor Donelan, work together with participants and their parents to explore all types of dance and free movement in two age groups:
Junior Group: 5-9 years
Senior Group: 10-18 years

The response from participants has been overwhelmingly positive and the level of engagement increasingly impressive, as families engage in the arts in a fun, creative and stress-free environment. Running since December 2013, this project is suitable for children aged 5-18 years and pre-booking is essential as places are limited.

Sensory Screenings

Draíocht’s Sensory Friendly programme includes regular Sensory Friendly Family Movie Screenings, with lowered volume, lights on a low level, small audience size, comfy beanbags and the ability to make noise and move around freely during the screenings if you wish.

Connect Club

We have a long-standing relationship, started in 2008, with the Daughters of Charity’s ‘Connect Club’ Summer camp in Laurel Lodge. The camp, catering for young people with varying degrees of intellectual disability, aims at providing an outlet that is fun and focused on the individual’s likes and interests. In recent years, Draíocht’s Artists have facilitated drama, dance, music and visual art workshops for young people aged 12-18 years.
