Draíocht welcomes Daniel Shaw-Smith to the artist residency. Daniel is originally from Shankill, Co Dublin, having graduated with a BA in Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design in 2001. Daniel received the prestigious Cap Foundation Award in 2001, an award made to two final year students of outstanding merit at NCAD.
Daniel is a printmaker and painter and works mostly with figurative imagery, creating narrative based paintings of strange goings-on in very ordinary settings, such as front gardens, laneways, street corners and so on. His semi-naïve style highlights the slightly surreal nature of his work which combines humour, tragedy and horror amongst other unusual characteristics.
