Draíocht welcomes Sanja Todorović to the Artist Studio for 3 months this Summer.
Sanja is a Fingal artist living in Blanchardstown, currently working primarily in the medium of embroidery.
"‘I like needlework in general because I like to make things with my hands using materials that I can handle. For me, the slowness of working with needle and thread brings about an intense interaction with the material. Embroidery is low-tech, clean, and easy to store and transport - I’ve been making mine in the box-room. It’s very decorative but it can also convey long history and deep time and the conspicuous investment of many hours of manual labour that it attests to toys with notions of value and permanence. My influences are widespread and unpredictable to me but one of the things that spurred me on to start working with needle and thread was a stash of old embroideries that my aunt made when she was growing up. During my residency at Draíocht, which has a big studio with lots of natural light, I plan on scaling up the work. Going big. And seeing what happens.’" - Sanja Todorović
