Susan Connolly makes abstract paintings using repeated patterns which are made by firstly layering on thick acrylic paint followed by peeling the paint as it dries to reveal under layers earlier painted. Her paintings become 3-dimensional as the paint lifts to make portholes into underpainting or the canvas itself. Sometimes the paint appears organic as it seems to grow away from the canvas, but her colour palette which is bright and artificial adds a more man-made dimension.
Susan Connolly is an artist from Sallins, County Kildare. She graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Limerick School of Art and Design in 1998 and an MA in Fine Art from the University of Ulster in 2002.
