Bernie Masterson is one of Ireland’s leading landscape artists and this solo exhibition entitled Landscape and Memory was a new body of paintings that explored the dramatic and romantic vistas of the Wicklow Mountains, as well as detailed drawings of garden foliage.
Masterson’s paintings captured the essence of nature and the earthy tones of the Irish landscape - the Sally Gap and the Sugar Loaf appear in rich purple, blue and brown with their gentle magnificence and dignity. As Masterson said herself, her work stems from, ‘a personal interaction with and to the landscape, the environment, nature and life’. There is an immediacy and truthful quality to Masterson’s painting that will strike a chord with most Irish people.
The exhibition was accompanied by a full colour catalogue.
Bernie Masterson studied at the Limerick School of Art and Design graduating in 1979.
