Gary Coyle, Paul McKinley and Jim Savage are three artists who have achieved a level of excellence in the medium of drawing rarely seen on gallery walls in Ireland.
Although many artists draw very well, sometimes using the medium as a back up or tool of research to another more focused practice, such as painting, installation or conceptual projects, Coyle, McKinley and Savage have produced drawings which are self-contained full-bodied works without need of reference outside of themselves. Each artist works in a distinct and robustly individual way by means of the most traditional drawing mediums of pencil and charcoal.
Gary Coyle is an artist from Dublin who studied at the National College of Art, graduating with a BA in Fine Art and later an MA in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art, London.
Paul McKinley is a Dublin-based artist who graduated from Sheffield’s Hallam University with a BA in Fine Art Painting in 1996.
Jim Savage (1950-2019) studied at the Manchester School of Art and the Slade School of Art, London.
