Francis Morrin is a studio woodturner who lives and works in County Meath. A member of the Irish Woodturners Guild, he serves on the national executive committee and is editor of its journal and website. He has written several articles on woodturning for both British and American publications.
Primarily formed from his interpretation of the natural environment, much of Francis’ work reflects human interaction with nature. Although not a commentary on ecological degradation, his work seeks to provoke an appreciation of surroundings, in particular colour, patterns and diversity.
His work incorporates copper, silver, brass, plastics, natural and man-made materials. The exhibition will also feature an audio-visual presentation.
The First Floor Gallery at Draíocht features an exhibition of Four Printmakers from Wednesday 2nd January to Saturday 2nd February 2002. The exhibition (which is courtesy of the Graphic Studio, Dublin) comprises work by four of Ireland’s premier print-makers – Breon Casey, William Crozier, Cliona Doyle and Maria Simmonds Gooding – covering a variety of print-making techniques.
Diverse in style and content, the exhibition ranges from coloured and patterned still life carborundums to exquisite old-world flower etchings, from modern symbolist linocuts to minimal and meditative interpretations of landscape.
