Gillian Lawler is a young Irish painter who has experienced considerable commercial success over the last number of years showing with the Cross Gallery, Dublin. Her work is a new and modern interpretation of landscape painting, using abstract motifs and mark-making to draw reference to both urban and rural settings.
This show will look at the erosion and weathering of urban environments and the elements within it – metal, stone, wood, and concrete. Lawler likes to draw attention to the traces of human presence in the world around us.
Lawler graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2000 and has exhibited prolifically over the last 6 years most specifically three solo shows at the Cross Gallery Dublin, and group exhibitions including the RHA Annual Exhibition, 2006, 2005, and 2002, Eigse, Carlow 2005, the Basement Gallery, Dundalk, the Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, and Temple Bar Art Gallery amongst others.
