Luan an tSléibhe was a major new body of work by well-known Irish artist Geraldine O’Neill; an artist whose practice is defined by a commitment to figurative and representational painting, a genre to which she brings a fresh and innovative approach.
Song birds featured strongly in this series, some framed within an internal familial setting, others set against borrowed backgrounds from Gainsborough, Velasquez and other old masters. Her images provoke memory and familiarity, childhood, innocence, beauty, truth and falsity, and loss.
Geraldine O'Neill was born in Dublin in 1971. She graduated with a B.A Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 1993 and a Masters in Fine Art in 2008.
