Eamon O’Kane presented Panorama, a special exhibition researched and developed over the previous two years, which addressed the changing physical environment of the Blanchardstown area over the previous 10 years, specifically the shopping centre site itself.
The show contained a wooden cylindrical Panorama-type structure in our First Floor Gallery, on the inside of which was a large rotunda painting of the view of Blanchardstown itself as though you could look through it. The Panorama created a ‘virtual reality’ of the area focusing the viewers attention to the buildings, roads, car parks and their interaction with the natural environment of trees, shrubs and green areas.
In addition, a series of drawings depicting individual elements of the Blanchardstown area was also included, and stop-motion video work.
Eamon O’Kane graduated with a BFA from NCAD in 1996 (1st Class Honours), an MFA from the University of Ulster, Belfast in 1998 (with Distinction) and in 2001 completed an MFA in Design Technology from Parsons School of Design, New York.
"Eamon O'Kane's Regeneration (2006) presented a series of paintings in stop-motion animation, which documented the ongoing development of a rural area outside Dublin, the layers of paint recording the sequence of man-made interventions in the area." - Zoe Gray, Contemporary magazine, 2007
"...while Eamon O'Kane's stop-motion paintings on video record the changes inflicted on Blanchardstown, a fast growing area outside Dublin and the site of Ireland's biggest shopping centre, and illustrates his ongoing concerns with art and architecture." - Klaus Ottmann, 2007
