Finnish artist Rita Jokiranta likes to be described as an artist who makes images rather than a photographer and in Temporary Diaries presents photographs both singly, in pair’s, and in three’s. They are large in scale (100x150 cm and 100x470 cm) and contain landscapes that are real but seem to come from an imaginary world. In looking at her mysterious images the reliability of our perceptions and memory are tested. Their multiple form creates a rhythm rather like a music video or film, but with a hidden narrative creating an uncertain feeling of unreality, the dream world or mythic tales.
In 2002 Jokiranta spent 3 months as artist in residence at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
The exhibition was opened by the Director of the Finnish Institute in London, Timo Valjakka.
