Tina Meehan created a series of small and large scale Utopias using mixed-media objects from throwaway culture, such as cigar boxes, ping-pong balls, paper cups, contact paper and string, amongst others. These objects became transformed into miniature worlds and environments, reminiscent of how children ‘play house’ with household objects – creating imaginary scenarios where they story-tell and act out mini-narratives of their own dreams and desires.
This exhibition was playful and inspiring, creating a world wide-open for interpretation and amusement for children and adults.
Tina Meehan graduated with a First Class BA in Fine Art from the Sligo Institute of Technology in 2006, where she was awarded the governing body medal for best overall student 2006, and was recipient of the Studio Bursary awarded jointly by the Sligo Institute of Technology and the Model Arts and Niland Gallery, Sligo.
