Artist Support - Aisling Breen

Draíocht is thrilled to welcome Dublin-based actor, writer, theatre-maker and storyteller Aisling Breen for a Gap Day this month.

A Gap Day allows a freelance theatre maker to dedicate a day to the creative research and thinking they have put on the long finger. It’s up to them what they spend the day doing – reading, writing, thinking, drawing, walking, dreaming. Whatever they don’t normally have time to do; whatever they think is needed.

Theatre makers are paid to spend a day working creatively, hosted by a cultural organisation close to their home. Gap Day has been run by creative producer Lian Bell and Mermaid County Wicklow Arts Centre since 2015.

Aisling is a Dublin-based actor, writer, theatre-maker and storyteller with over 25 years’ professional experience. Her work spans theatre, television, choreography and new writing. She creates original, interactive theatre for young audiences.

Alongside performing and writing, Aisling teaches drama and tap, working with children, young people and disabled adults. She is currently expanding her writing practice into theatre for adult audiences, exploring women’s lives, grief, ambition and reinvention through warmth and humour.

Draíocht is recognised as a creative hub and laboratory space and invests significantly in the development of artist's practice by the provision of benefit in kind support such as space, technical support, admin/marketing support and specialist expertise. We offer a wide range of opportunities to artists i.e. commissions, residencies, artist studios/rehearsal space, co-productions, co-commissions, seed funding, mentoring.

Our Artist Support Series, launched during Covid-19, has helped 79 artists in 2020, 50 artists in 2021, 74 artists in 2022, 53 artists in 2023, 31 artists in 2024 and 71 artists in 2025, with the provision of free rehearsal and creative space.
