A pandemic has no chance of stopping our Create Dancers as they continue to dance through these last weeks and months, virtually meeting, every Saturday with their dance facilitators Mark Rogers and Conor Donolan. They experiment with Yoga, contemporary dance, classical movement, stretching, sequencing and all-important solos.
Our Create Dancers are young people with a range of additional needs, and all with a love of dance, of seeing their friends, of showing their ever-growing abilities to move, jump, turn and sway their body as they feel, in response to sound, to music, instruction and routine.
There are documented benefits of dance that can be particularly important for people with additional needs; Dance can provide a channel of communication, improved coordination, our sessions help in developing relationships and positive peer to peer interaction, to name only a few. These benefits are important to acknowledge - but for us it is the great joy in a Create Dance session that is the purpose - for our dancers, for their parents - and for us, for Draíocht.
Create Dance is part of who Draíocht is and what we do. It is a generous space to take joy in the creative moments of others. So thank you to all our Create Dance participants - you have been as important to us, and we have been to you.
