Towards the end of his life, the French artist Henri Matisse developed a new process of making art - he called it “Drawing with Scissors”. This process came from an ongoing illness that left him homebound, just as we, you and many of your family and friends may have experienced over the Pandemic year. While homebound, Matisse became inspired by cutting pieces of paper, and from these he created energetic colorful collages known as cut-outs.
Join us on National Drawing Day, 15th May, outside Draíocht, to see this process brought to life by our Artist Anne Cradden, as she begins to cover our outside Gallery Windows with creepy crawlies, gorgeous garden vines and wonderful wild flowers, just as Matisse did.
You can join in too! Come along and watch Anne, as she cuts and sticks, and see the magic of her collage unfold. Or even better ... YOU too can explore drawing with scissors to create some cut outs or bring along a sketch and Anne can replicate your sketches and shapes of real or imagined plants and animals, on our nature inspired wild window collage.
The wild windows will be with us for the coming weeks, so feel free to come along and have a look and be inspired to experiment with a different way of drawing and create your own collage.
