Nature Traces is a solo show by exciting young artist Alan Keane. The work deals with the creative process of painting with references to landscape and the trace and patterns of nature on our daily life.
Working on paper, Keane experiments with technique – dripping, staining, blotting and scraping – producing compositions in a cool palette of blues, greys and white. Despite the colour and abstract form of his work, it has a warm organic sensibility. Textures of velvet and suede form meandering contours and outlines like ariel photographs of tropical landscapes.
‘My work is an exploration of what we might find beneath the layers of commonplace. I am interested in the questions that arise through the making and meaning of art, rather than the solutions’ Alan Keane
Alan Keane graduated with a Masters in Fine Art from the University of Ulster, Belfast, having completed a B.A. in Fine Art Painting at Crawford College of Art (Cork). The work on show at Draíocht was made during a ten month studio residency at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
