Artist Support - Veronica Coburn & Louise Lewis
Thérese by Louise Lewis
New Work in Development
07-08 November 2024
A modern day epic, set in contemporary Dublin, inspired by the form and function of Greek tragedy, exploring class, gender, motherhood and grief. If Greek Tragedy gave voice to the powerful, then Thérese is the voice of the dispossessed. The forgotten. The good citizens who battled to make good lives in the midst of the social chaos of the 1980's drug wars. The visionaries who saw that escape came in the form of education. And the survivors who now occupy a new city full of coffee shops and playgrounds and well kept parks.
Thérese is a roar seeking accountability. Thérese is an homage to those who have been lost. And Therese is a complex exploration of the impact of generational social inequity.
Thérese was developed with the support of Draíocht, The Irish Theatre Institute & The Arts Council. An in development sharing will take place in Draíocht on Friday, November 8th, at 11 a.m. The sharing will be performed by Louise Lewis, Orla Fitzgerald, Jasmine Russell and Aoibhe Beaumont Walsh. Direction & dramaturgy by Veronica Coburn. Sincere thanks to Emer and all the crew in Draíocht.
