Open Call for Graduate Artists 2023
Deadline: 22 October 2023
"Draíocht is delighted to co commission THE WRENS, a new piece of theatre for children by Dan Colley. We have been a longtime supporter of Dan's work. His commitment to creating exciting and innovative work for young audiences chimes with our commitment to both these audiences and the artists who create same." - Emer McGowan, Director
DUBLIN PREMIERE 5th & 6th May 2023 in Draíocht Blanchardstown
Following the critical and audience response to 'Lost Lear' (nominated for Best New Play; Best Supporting Actor and Best AV Design at the Irish Times Theatre Awards 2023), Dan Colley's newest production, 'THE WRENS', is inspired by his research from his residency at Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge.
'THE WRENS' is a dark, yet vibrant fable loosely based on the Curragh Wrens. This magic-realist piece for audiences aged 8+ is a poignant, funny, and wildly speculative interpretation of history and myths. This new piece from Dan Colley ('A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings', 'Lost Lear') is bound to captivate and inspire.
Co-commissioned by Draíocht and co-produced by Riverbank Arts Centre.
Supported by The Ark and Fishamble’s New Play Clinic.
Funded by the The Arts Council
