What a journey ... As Dance Artist in Residence (2020-2021-2022) in Draíocht Jess Rowell has developed and expanded her knowledge of inclusive dance practice, nurtured cross-arts relationships and received mentorship from experts in the field. Her work with Draíocht has been documented and presented on film, stage and live on RTE national news.
Work includes:
Creation and direction of Making Waves an immersive dance theatre performance for children with mild to complex needs. Between Us There Is... a dance film celebrating the 13-year movement relationship between Jess Rowell and Brian McSweeney a dancer with Down syndrome. Two-part film project for young dancers with a range of disabilities enabling connection and participation during the pandemic which included: Chance to Dance a documentary, bringing together Create Dance, Draíocht and Traces Dance Ensemble, Waterford; Ripples a film presenting dance as an expression of individuality. Create Dance & Friends a day of inclusive dance, celebration and exploration which brought together over 50 dancers with additional needs and Voices an integrated dance work for stage and film documentary inspired by inclusivity and identity.
