Mary-Lou McCarthy

Last week we were in Draíocht rehearsing "The Dead Letter Office" by Mary-Lou McCarthy. The play was commissioned by "Ready, Steady, Show!" at The Civic in 2019, and it was week 1 of rehearsals so we were investigating the text; working on character development and we started developing the world of the play. We had Emily Foran (Director), Sadhbh Barrett Coakely (stage manager), Curtis-Lee Ashqar (performer) and Mary-Lou McCarthy (writer/performer in the in the room) with some of the creative team coming and going to discuss the technical aspects of the play. The script development on the play started with a residency at The CCI, Paris in 2018 which Draíocht supported so it was wonderful to be back in the building where it began with the support of Branar's Meitheal.

This week we are in Cork for the remainder of rehearsals at the Everyman, and open in Graffiti theatre, Cork on October 19th and run until 23rd and then we move to The Civic Theatre, Tallaght from Oct 26th-28th for our final performances.

About the show:
"The Dead Letter Office"by Mary-Lou McCarthy is an exciting new play for young audiences aged 9+, exploring migration and belonging. Developed by Veronica Coburn and Directed by Emily Foran, with an award-winning creative team, the play is a beautiful story about connection and how through others we can find ourselves. Students who attend the play will receive an educational resource pack and video resources further exploring the themes and narrative of the play.
