Brand New Show 'Monsters' tours for 3 weeks to D15 Schools
Today on #WorldChildrensDay (& every day in Draíocht), we join Unicef Ireland in promoting this year's theme "my day, my rights". Around the world, children are standing up and talking about their lives, their hopes, and their rights.
It's the perfect day to celebrate the end of Matt Szczerek's Two Year Dance Residency in Draíocht, where we've supported the production of a brand new show for children, 'Monsters', which has been devised and created with input, feedback and discussion from local children aged 4-12 years from primary schools all across Dublin 15. We're delighted to have also toured the finished 'Monsters' show to schools in Dublin 15 for 3 weeks this November, an empowering full circle moment for many children who saw the show in its very early stages.
"... 'It was so scary, it made me fart!' .. definitely one of my favourite quotes from a child on this tour. It's a privilege to work in a place like Draíocht, where we are given all that's necessary in order for imagination to go wild and to bring that inspiration to children. It's been the most fulfilling creative two years of making this spooky Monsters show." - Matt Szczerek
Draíocht's belief in the transformative power of the arts means that we place a lot of emphasis on encouraging and enabling the participation of those who may not have had prior opportunity to see or experience the arts. Our unique Children’s Charter sets out our promise to the children and young people we serve, and we place them at the heart of our programming, always.
Matt also worked collaboratively with dancer/circus artist, Alessio Motta and composer Jack Foster. Stay tuned for our 'Monsters' film documentary by @fruit_frame
