For 2 weeks in February, Draíocht is out and about in 2 Dublin 15 Primary Schools with Paul Curley's 'The Elephant in the Room'.
We're delighted to visit:
Tyrrelstown Educate Together NS - Week of 9th February
St Philip the Apostle JNS - Week of 23rd February
The Elephant in the Room is a stand-alone sculpture that aims to provoke conversation about things that are really obvious, yet we still find difficult to talk about.
Standing more than 3.5 meters high, this bespoke Elephant (designed and created by Ger Clancy with Paul Curley) resides in a school for one week, allowing the whole school community to witness the wonder of this curious creature.
This project invites its audience to allow The Elephant to inspire conversation & ignite critical thinking.
Developed and created with the support of The Arts Council YPCE AGF 2024.
2024 Pilot presentation supported by Draíocht in Scoil Mhuire Senior NS, Dublin 15 and Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge Educate Together School and St.Mark’s School Newbridge.

THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM is an outrageous interruption. Where did it come from? What does it mean?
Standing almost 3.5 meters high, this bespoke Elephant (designed and created by Ger Clancy with Paul Curley) will reside in a school hall for a period of up to one week, allowing the whole school to witness the wonder of this curious creature.
Construction and installation of the Elephant will happen during non-school hours, giving the impression the Elephant has appeared from nowhere when children arrive in school. It will leave in the same way.
The Elephant in the Room is a stand-alone installation that aims to provoke conversation about things that are really apparent, yet we find difficult to talk about.
This sculptural art project invites you to invite The Elephant into your school to inspire conversation & ignite critical thinking.
Preparatory information and follow-up resources will be made available to participating schools.
Build times takes a minimum of 3 hours.
Building & installation typically takes place on a Monday afternoon (after school), the sculpture is dismantled and removed the following Thursday afternoon.
A site visit may be required to view the hall/space ahead of installation date.
