Teenager Finn and his younger brother Charlie are extremely close to their grandfather John. However, a heartbreaking accident has led to their parents cutting off all contact with John. Devastated by the estrangement, Finn and Charlie decide to run away and make the trip from their English home to their grandfather’s home on the west coast of Ireland. With limited funds and constant worries over Charlie’s fragile health, it proves to be a risky and emotional journey for the boys.
Based on Mark Lowery’s book Charlie and Me, 500 Miles is a deeply affecting road-trip and coming-of-age drama. With a cast that includes Billy Nighy, Maisie Williams and Clare Dunne, this is a film that earns its big emotional moments.
