Writer-director Greta Gerwig presents this new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel about four sisters growing up at the end of the American Civil War. As the March sisters struggle to live their lives on their own terms, they all face challenges, both similar and different. Jo wants to be a writer; Meg longs to find love and raise a family; Amy wants to paint and to marry well; and gentle Beth wants to play piano and for nothing to change.
But change it does as love, poverty, illness and sibling rivalry all come calling, forcing the sisters to learn many life lessons. Gerwig’s joyful retelling, which features a stellar cast, is bound to become a firm family favourite.
"Little Women is the best kind of Hollywood film: thoughtful yet escapist, sophisticated yet accessible, expertly crafted and deeply felt. The performances are all top notch - Ronan and Pugh, especially, breathe new life into their characters. Gerwig’s direction is also first rate ..." - Katie Rife, The AV Club
"... rich, warm, bustlingly populated and passionately devoted ... This is such a beguiling, generous film from Gerwig. There is a lot of love in it."- Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
