Celebrate Culture Night in Draíocht with this 90 minute interactive workshop that will explore Re-imagining Public Spaces in D15.
Beginning with an introduction about architecture, and its connection with arts, participants will familiarise themselves with our local public spaces and how they could be re imagined and used for the benefit of everyone.
Topics covered will include basic landscaping, planning tools and scale/functionality. Working collaboratively in teams and using the design thinking techniques shown, participants will be invited to create a use of public space master plan using a variety of techniques.
Workshop Facilitator: Muhammad Achour MSc BArch
Muhammad Achour grew up in Aleppo, Syria, where he got his bachelor's degree in architecture, then worked there as a lecturer and teaching assistant before relocating to Dublin. He now works at Dublin City University as a teaching assistant. During his masters’ studies at UCD in 2016 he fell in love with the idea of community engagement and the search for making better cities and making cities better. He founded ‘Places of ARcture’ a social enterprise that advocates for using art and architecture as tools to engage with local communities. He believes that community engagement within our neighborhoods is a key tool for achieving liveable cities. He has delivered a creative co-creation workshop with transition year students in Dublin entitled, ‘Imaginary Public Space’ through the Irish Architecture Foundation’s Architect in School initiative. Muhammad is a founding member of Art Nomads, a collective of visual artists from migrant and diverse cultural traditions based in Ireland.
