National Drawing Day, GROOVE, PLAY, and a Fancy New Website!
It's May and we certainly have a Spring in our step, as we enjoy some cultural reopenings around the country.
We are planning our own Gallery reopening for early July and a performance programme from September, so stay tuned for more news soon.
For now, we continue our programme of Artist Supports and online activities, which you can read more about below.
National Drawing Day at Draíocht
Join us on National Drawing Day, 15th May, outside Draíocht, and join artist Anne Cradden as she begins to cover our outside Gallery Windows with creepy crawlies, gorgeous garden vines and wonderful wild flowers!
Inspired by French artist Henri Matisse’s process of “Drawing with Scissors”, watch Anne create energetic colourful collages… Or even better, you too can explore drawing with scissors to create some cut outs or bring along a sketch and Anne can replicate your sketches and shapes of real or imagined plants and animals, on our nature inspired wild window collage!
GROOVE - Draíocht in the Community
All this week Draíocht has been off site in St Vincent's School, working with theatremaker Anna Newell, as the 7 week tour of Ireland continues of The Network of Extraordinary Audiences, funded by The Arts Council.
GROOVE is the first production in our Network For Extraordinary Audiences 2021 Season in collaboration with 6 other venues across Ireland.

On Saturdays We Dance!
A pandemic has no chance of stopping our Create Dancers as they continue to dance through these last weeks and months, virtually meeting every Saturday with their dance facilitators Mark Rogers and Conor Donolan.
They experiment with Yoga, contemporary dance, classical movement, stretching, sequencing and all-important solos.
Our Create Dancers are young people with a range of additional needs, and all with a love of dance, of seeing their friends, of showing their ever-growing abilities to move, jump, turn and sway their body as they feel, in response to sound, to music, instruction and routine.
Mother Tongues Festival 2021
The Mother Tongues Festival is the largest festival celebrating linguistic diversity through the arts in Ireland, and Draíocht is delighted to be a part of it for another year!

Less Work, More PLAY!
Last week we had so much fun in St Francis Xavier’s Senior School, with great weather, and even better live music!
Next week, we're back in the playgrounds with PLAY, bringing more instruments like saxophones and trumpets to the lucky young folk of Dublin 15 schools.
Susan Buttner Prepares for PLATFORM 2021
Our Artist in Residence Susan Buttner is back in her Studio for 2 weeks in preparation for PLATFORM 2021.
Susan had a few words to say to us about her upcoming projects and her time here as Artist in Residence:
"It is so good to be out of lockdown and back in the studio at Draíocht! For the next two weeks I will be busy putting the finishing touches to some of the bigger sculptural works and I will also be documenting and recording all the paintings and drawings made as part of this research based project. I am looking forward to taking part in the group exhibition PLATFORM 2021 at Draíocht curated by Sharon Murphy with fellow artists, Ellen Duffy, John Rainey and Katherine Sankey, and John Rainer.
This studio space is terrific, my time here has proven to be productive and positive. A big shout out to all the team at the Draíocht, it has been a real pleasure working with you, I am going to miss being here!"
