12 week Project and Exhibition of Works by Children from Dublin 15
2020
An initiative of Draíocht’s Children and Youth Arts Programme during Covid-19, #ShowUsYourArt invited its young artists aged 2-13 years, to make paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations and photographic images as a way to stay close and positively engage during the pandemic.
We were delighted to open Draíocht’s Ground Floor Gallery with an exhibition of 326 works made during lockdown by 164 children from 122 families living on the doorstep of Draíocht in Dublin 15.
Over a period of twelve weeks between 30 March and 19 June 2020, portfolios of artworks by the children emerged which investigated and represented their ideas around a range of themes from the experience of different seasonal festivals to the built environment and from the natural world to best friends, family ties and even superheroes.
Each week Draíocht posted a selection of submissions online and, following the easing of restrictions, the artworks made their way to the Gallery for selection and installation. The Gallery was designed to show the works on small shelves, on large round wooden wall based panels, in grid formations, on screens and a specially made soundscape of the children’s experience has been commissioned.
We are indebted to the children and families for their extraordinary commitment and enthusiasm.
Exhibition ran from 20 July – 28 August 2020 in the Ground Floor Gallery
