Spring Youth Dance Club

Over 7 weeks on Thursdays afternoons, students from Transition year in Blakestown Community School worked together with Dublin Youth Dance Company's teacher and choreographer Mariela Mira in Draíocht and their school, to explore and create a contemporary dance piece in response to our Ground Floor Exhibition "The Subversive Stitch". The resulting dance piece was performed on the final Thursday, on Draíocht's Main Stage, and filmed for a short documentary.

The project began with taster sessions offered to 50 Blakestown Transition Year students. A smaller number of interested students then chose to continue with the project. Students decided on the outcome of the project.

This collaborative project between Draíocht and Dublin Youth Dance Company (DYDC) has been made possible with funding from Fingal Arts Office to encourage the development of Contemporary Dance in Dublin 15.
